One of the reason I don't buy pre-cut, bagged lettuces is that I don't trust that the contents have been washed thoroughly. I have no idea what the processing method is for pre-cut packages sold at places like Walmart, and I would rather not know because I might be alarmed.

I don't know about simply removing outer leaves from a whole iceburg plant. I don't buy iceburg very often but when I do, I wash everything including the inner leaves all the way down to the discarded core, because of possible contamination by dirt, chemicals like pesticides, and bugs.

They have reason to suspect that, as a possibility, the farm in Mexico is the only source, and in order to be safe people are avoiding foods from that farm, and recalls are going on. Hopefully they will continue to test samples. But no one in the government is saying they're not ruling out other possibilities. In fact, they're saying the opposite.

It's really hard to build an accurate roadmap unless people are symptomatic immediately. And with a week or two that can go by, it just stretches the possibilities in different directions due to other foods consumed from other sources in that timeframe.
