In Sweden, most people get their salary once a month, usually around the 25th. I’m curious how it works in the US.

Companies can do whatever they want pretty much. I’ve been paid monthly, semi-monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly before. I’d say the two middle options are most common.

Taxes is way too complicated to discuss. Every state has different state taxes (and a few have none at all).

Really depends on the job. But most jobs are either weekly or bi-weekly pay. I've never heard of one paycheck a month, and I would never work at a job like that

Very common in higher ed to only get paid once a month. Back in the old days, before computers, they would give us our December paycheck before winter break so we had money for the holidays. It was a rough six weeks until the next paycheck at the end of January…

For my job, it was twice a month until I got promoted into management and it shifted to monthly. At this point, with direct deposit and autopay…. It goes it then goes out. Maybe not in the exact ratios every month.

Public school employees around me get once a month, and they divide it up into 12 checks so you get paychecks in the summer even if you aren’t going in to work.

There are a variety of ways, not just one way. And folks are also not unified on which is the best.

I like getting paid monthly (usually the first, or the first Monday of the month), followed by twice a month (usually 1st and 15th). Some folks get paid weekly, usually Fridays. The absolute undisputed worst way to get paid is every two weeks, because payment gets out of synch with when your rent or mortgage is due, and you have 26 payments over 12 months; when I got paid this way, I realized I had to start budget my life on 24 checks and treat the odd two that came as the 3rd check in a month as bonus pay. It ALWAYS felt like I was being robbed on 1/12 of my pay, since it;s couldn't be used for monthly expenses.

There are a number of ways it can be done. I've worked a job where I was paid on a monthly basis before. Getting paid twice a month is very common, but for some folks they get paid once mid month and once at the end of the month, whereas others get paid every two weeks---which generally means getting paid twice a month, but results in two months a year where you get three such paychecks.

It depends on the job. I get paid the last weekday of the month. Personally, a little under 30% of my paycheck goes to taxes, healthcare premiums, retirement, union dues, etc.

I get paid biweekly on a Friday. Its often deposited on Thursday so my bank gives it to me immediately if thats the case. So twice a year I have a bonus third pay in a month which is higher (about $3400) because the non tax deductions are split between the first two pays every month. I pay about 10% of my salary in federal taxes (about $12k on 115k) because i live in a state without local income tax and I max out my 401k which is pre tax retirement savings. You pay taxes on that when you withdraw after you retire (anytime after 60).
