Pentagon secretly installs military influencers in civilian roles
Conservative veterans with large social media followings have been hired by the Defense Department and are amplifying Pete Hegseth’s culture-war fights.

The Pentagon has secretly installed several conservative military veterans with large online followings in government roles, declining to disclose their assignments as they amplify Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s viewpoints and attack those who scrutinize the Trump administration, according to people familiar with the matter and corroborating material.
At least some of the influencers have been assigned to civilian roles that could lead to changes in policy, the people familiar with the matter said. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
Neither the Pentagon nor those involved have disclosed the government roles despite the Trump administration’s claims that they are running the most transparent Defense Department ever.
Those involved include Rob Maness, a retired Air Force colonel, and Kurt Schlichter, a retired Army colonel, people familiar with the matter said. Pentagon records reviewed by The Washington Post show that both have active official government email addresses as of this past week and are assigned to the office of Anthony Tata, the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. The email addresses include a “.civ” suffix, meaning they are labeled as civilian employees, rather than as military personnel or contractors.
Both served for decades in uniform and, since retiring, have turned from the military to conservative commentary. Maness has more than 135,000 followers on X, while Schlicter has nearly 620,000.

Another retired Army colonel and influencer, Thomas Anderson, was listed in Pentagon records earlier this year with a “.civ” email address and assigned to Tata’s office, according to people familiar with the matter and records reviewed by The Post. An attorney, he writes online under the pen name Cynical Publius and has more than 323,000 followers on X. He was no longer listed in Pentagon records late this past week, the people familiar with the issue said.
The assignments for all three have not previously been reported. Questions have been raised online about influencers’ connections with the Pentagon, including in an article last week by the Bulwark.
Pentagon spokesman Joel Valdez declined to comment to The Post about whether any of the three are drawing a taxpayer-funded salary, what roles they have or how long those jobs are expected to last. Tata did not respond to a request for comment.
Maness and Schlichter did not respond to emails or other messages requesting comment. Anderson declined to comment in a short phone call.
The individuals are assigned as either “special government employees” or “highly qualified experts,” people familiar with the issue said. Schlicter appears in a government database with an “HQE” designation after his name, according to material reviewed by The Post.
SGEs are limited by law to working no more than 130 days in any 365-day period. Those with HQE status can work full- or part-time, with or without compensation, according to government guidance on the issue released in 2023. It was not clear what financial agreements were reached with Maness, Schlicter and Anderson, and when each of their assignments began.
Tata’s team has taken on a number of culture-war issues, including scrutinizing war colleges for “woke” ideology and reviewing how the Biden administration adopted covid vaccine mandates for U.S. troops.

Jennica Pounds, who is more well-known as MAGA influencer DataRepublican on social media, was outed as a special government employee of the Department of Defense Monday. Pounds’s Pentagon employment came to light after a bizarre incident in which she claimed she was being “set up” by the deep state — but it was revealed she merely botched a “scoop” she was being handed by a State Department official.
Up until June, Pounds was a member of the credentialed Pentagon press corps. She had not disclosed her new gig with the Pentagon.
The story began to blow open on Friday, Aug. 21, when the X account for the far-right outlet AF Post wrote, “Jennica Pounds, aka Data Republican, a Department of War employee, alleges that Undersecretary of State Sarah Rogers is attempting to ‘entrap’ Pounds by providing her with information to ‘leak’ under the guise of offering her a ‘scoop.'”
ADVERTISING
Per AF Post, Pounds also believed the “Deep State” — or Rogers — was “trying to set her up to commit a crime, in this case claiming Rogers is trying to entice her to leak sensitive information.”
“It’s not okay when the Deep State sets you up to commit a crime,” Pounds wrote in a now-deleted thread. “I have never been more angry in my life.”

They were fired because they effectively told their bosses (who pay them) to go fuck themselves. When an employee is insubordinate, you fire them. If a Federal employee told Biden or Obama to fuck off, they too should (and would) get fired.

Suicides on carriers are fairly routine. Go ahead and look up the suicide rate for 18-30 year old's and then factor for there being 5000 of them. Its about 1.

Then fucking address the moral issues instead of censoring reporting on it. The time to do this was before things got so bad the sailors on the Lincoln were writing to their families begging for help because things had gotten to the point it was unsustainable.
>Most people in conflicts are pretty fucking sad about it.

Literally nothing about the Lincoln's treatment was "routine". It literally now holds the record for the longest a US battleship has spent deployed at sea without a port call. You cannot keep people at sea that long with no resupply and expect them to keep up morale. It's a prime sign of the DOD under Trump and Hegseth having no fucking long term planning and not giving a single shit about the people serving under them.
>They are paid for and answer to the Pentagon. What you just posted is a disclaimer so that the Pentagon can cover its ass if someone posts something retarded.

They're not supposed to answer to the Pentagon; historically they have complete editorial freedom because they're supposed to represent the troops. They've operated under that for almost a century until suddenly the Trump admin started inserting themselves into it and forcibly firing anyone critical of them even if that critique is coming from the troops themselves.

How the fuck does it threaten US troops lives to say they're exhausted because they've been out at sea for almost a full year without a proper port stop? If anything the enemy was aware of that long before we were back at home. It isn't a massive leap of logic to see a battleship has been out at sea for over 200 days and go "yeah they're probably running out of supplies".
More over, you know what did put US troops at risk? Leaving them out at sea for 200+ days with dwindling supplies with no plan.

No it doesn't. The USS Stout holds that record with 212 days. And carrier deployments of this length are rare but not unusual. USS Dwight D. Eisenhower did 206 days in 2020, Gerald R. Ford did 326 days with one port-call, and Midway (in the 1970's) did 332 days with two port-calls.

So it's bad they're emboldened off of false information? Do you think if we kept pretending the Lincoln was hunky dory they would've just surrendered? This is retarded; Iran absolutely would've known about the supply issue before the story broke because they could see the ship was sitting in the ocean for months. Hence why they kept bragging about trying to attack it even though those stories never got substantiated.

Except this fundamentally misunderstands how resupply missions work; that's 750 tonnes spread across all the ships the Arctic is resupplying on its route. If they could just casually get 750 tonnes of food to each individual ship within a week or two of each other, we wouldn't need port stops in the first place.

Genuinely I don't know why you retards are bragging about the Ayatollah. Blowing up their leader sounds good in theory but in practice we replaced an ancient old man with a younger, more extreme one who is much less willing to cooperate. We were literally better off in talks with the previous guy. If anything we did them a favor because not only did we put a younger leader in power, but we also gave them a fucking martyr (you know, along with all those dead schoolgirls) that managed to completely halt the movement to remove the old one by the actual Iranian people.

It must make Itranians seethe so hard knowing we bombed them than moved on like they were old news and they cant even do anything about it. They try desperately to get some publicity back on this story but Americans are already bored and on to the next thing. ComeNovember, people will have entirely forgotten about Iran and will be back to voting over culture war issues, because seriously, that's more important then Iran's pitifully weak response as of late.

Huh?
I understand the reason perfectly. The purpose is to punish those who intentionally cause a medical or mental condition in order to avoid work, duty, deployment.
The sailor is a woman who just had a kid. She told everyone she wants off the boat to be with her kid. When they said no, she did what she did. Either her attempt was a "fake" attempt (we don't know the details) or maybe it was real. Either way it was an attempt to get out of service and her wish will be granted. She will have her court martial and she will be discharged from the military. Probably with a "Less than Honorable" or just an Administrative Separation.
Like, what the fuck do you expect the navy to do?

You mean celebrating at his funeral with fireworks shows and fake tears? The most unhinged reactions to Kirk getting Kirked wasn't leftists throwing some jokes on him over the internet, it was his own organization trying to profit off of it before his body was cold. His own wife literally tried to use it as a springboard for her own career while turning every funeral service and memorial into a WWE-style event.
