We're now on Day 43 of my daily US states threads in honor of the 250th anniversary of this country.

Texas joined as the 28th state on 12/29/1845. Its name is based on the Caddo word tay:sha, meaning friend. It has a population of 31.7 Million and is 268.6k Square Miles in size. Its capital is Austin and its largest city is Houston. Two presidents (Eisenhower, Johnson) are from here.
