We're now on Day #42 of my daily US states threads in honor of the 250th anniversary of the country.

Tennessee joined as the 16th state on 6/1/1796. Its name is derived from the Cherokee town of Tanasi in present day Monroe County. It has a population of 7.3 Million and is 42.2k square miles in size. Its capital and largest city is Nashville.
