the US government can already wiretap you, intercept your emails, track your physical location via your phone's GPS and cell-tower pings, scrape your metadata (who you call, when, and for how long), read your text messages in real time, access your cloud storage backups, monitor your social media activity and private direct messages, capture your keystrokes through malware, activate your device microphones and cameras remotely, record your voice and video calls, analyze your browsing history and search queries, infiltrate your smart home devices (TVs, speakers, thermostats, doorbells), extract data from your vehicle's navigation and infotainment systems, collect your biometric data (fingerprints, facial recognition, gait patterns), use stingrays to mimic cell towers and intercept your cellular traffic, compel internet service providers and tech companies to hand over user data via national security letters and FISA court orders, conduct bulk dragnet collection of international communications, exploit zero-day vulnerabilities in software and hardware, plant backdoors in encryption and networking equipment, monitor VPN and Tor traffic patterns, track your purchases and financial transactions through banking and credit card records, analyze public and private surveillance camera feeds with AI, and retain all this data indefinitely in massive data lakes for pattern-of-life analysis, predictive behavioral modeling, and retroactive historical searches, all under the legal umbrella of foreign intelligence, counterterrorism, and executive orders, almost always with minimal judicial oversight, secret interpretations of the law, and broad carve-outs for "incidental" collection on U.S. citizens.
