To be fair, 90% of times a computer is slow or misbehaving, reinstalling windows does the trick, it's so mindboggingly easy to fuck up a windows install, I'd bet all of them over the world are half broken and they just accepted as windows being shittier than it is.

This. A majority of laptop manufacturers (looking at you HP) just skimp on everything including cooling. Just for it to be thinner or look "cooler". Usually just drilling a hole in the casing where the fan is and adding a filter does wonders.
