Just for the sake of argument how the whole "linux is free, if you don't value your time" one is anymore valid? Heck, even in the beginning there were justwerk distros (Mandrake Linux) you could simply use without bothering about what's under the hood.

>inb4 hw compatibility issues/problems

>inb4(我知道你要说)硬件兼容性问题/故障

Was pretty much solved when livecd where introduced, since then you could simply boot linux from ram and see if installing it on that machine was even worth the effort.

>inb4 using the program XY is a pain/impossibility

>inb4(我知道你要说)使用 XY 程序很痛苦/不可能

Again, livecd to test if possible and if reasonable. Then again that's another issue altogether: if you NEED to use a specific tool then the OS underneath is just a forethought, one should simply follow the path of lest resistance for it, doing the opposite is mental retardation on the user part, not an issue inherent of the linux experience.

especially with your description of it, it only potentially reduces wasted time if you happen to find an issue, but also adds the risk of wasting even more time if the "live testing" didn't catch some issue before committing to a full installation

>especially with your description of it, it only potentially reduces wasted time

..yes? Of course if you frame it like you're going to fail unequivocally at the end then ofc it's "time wasted" but you're using a logical fallacy here.

If you're already at the physical installation phase i would assume you already probed the system enough to gauge if any potential, unforseen setbacks are offset by the advantages you met.

I've never understood the 'if you don't value your free time' meme. I installed linux and I had to do less work to make it less shit than I do on windows.

His argument was terrible too. He's talking about Photoshop and Adobe products as if that's something a programmer actually uses regularly. If you're working for an even remotely competent company the programmers will never ever touch anything related to graphic design.

Not only that, you can even leave the most basic bitch vanilla, turboaids configuration and yet windows can still fuck your shit up if you leave windows update free to upgrade your drivers.

people who do not want to waste time will typically not want to waste any time at all, not "waste some time but not too much"

"potentially reducing wasted time" (the best case scenario) is still in no way good, compared to guaranteed not wasting any time at all

I use Windows 11 because I like Windows 11. That being said I tried Bazzite with KDE Plasma and it's fine. The closest thing I could call a Windows replacement if I ever found one. It is cohesive and elegant. There are other distros out there that attempt this but don't go far enough in this direction. I feel like the way Bazzite handles things is going to be the future of Linux where we have nice little GUI things that handle things for us, the core repos handle the OS and OS components, and whatever it uses for the applications is what it is. I like Bazaar. I liked how it felt good the entire time I used it. It's only downfall for me was how quickly things became unstable and started to exhibit bugs and crashed on me. If we can figure this out, the future of Linux desktop will be something like Bazzite and less like Arch.
