Being a commercial pilot is the opposite of comfy, until you are nearing retirement. Scheduling is based off of seniority, so the first few years has you flying short hops in commuter jets at weird ass hours and not being home for a week until you make captain, then you can switch to being a co-pilot on a bigger jet, where you go back to shit scheduling until you make captain again on that airframe.

The only time pilots have actually cool schedules are the international guys because they hit their hour limits in one flight, so they are forced to stay wherever they landed for a few days, which basically means a paid 3 day weekend in Tokyo or London, then not working for 2 weeks.

Oh, also I forgot that you wont start off at an airline, you're going to be grinding at a flight school for several years flying Cessnas for 12 hours a day until the airlines feel like hiring (which is entirely random).

>>62596843

If you want to get a commercial license, most small flight schools will offer the program for it. It's not too different from getting a private license, its just the requirements are stricter and you need to jump through more hoops. You can also go to part 141 school like Embry-Riddle or ATP academy and go through that process which WILL rape your wallet and soul, but it is by far the fastest way to become a commercial pilot. IIRC it takes like 8 months and about 100k for those people.

I'll let you in on a secret: your career, even if you stay in academia, won't follow your degree choice. I'm only partially related as a civil service email generator because I got my law degree in corporate law and find myself working for a top bank with a great view from a fucking cubicle where most of the cases were customers trying to scam money.

Yeah I don't think that's for me. Also I get in arguments already about the law where I can tell we don't look at the law the same way. I think humans are imperfect and therefore laws are imperfect whereas some people view the law as if it was written by God himself. I bet most real lawyers don't feel this way but a lot of adjacent people in the industry seem like they do.
