In 1941, British codebreakers intercepted a new, high-speed German encryption system known as Tunny, which was far more advanced than the previously broken Enigma cipher. To crack this complex code, engineer Tommy Flowers developed Colossus, the world's first large-scale programmable electronic digital computer.
