On July 16, 2024, a daytime meteor produced a sonic boom over New York City and subsequently crashed a meteorite through a house roof in Hillsborough, New Jersey. International researchers have now analyzed the fragment, revealing it is a rare CM1/2 carbonaceous chondrite with unique near-surface asteroid origins.
