Previously, high-level languages needed to embed their own garbage collectors in .wasm binaries, leading to bloated sizes and limited access to native optimization techniques like stack maps. The Wasm GC proposal addresses this by allowing programs to define struct and array types with automatic lifetime management handled by the runtime.
