The author has taped out the world's first open-source switch ASIC, a 100Mbps unmanaged cut-through ethernet switch, with silicon bring-up expected by mid-November 2026. This project addresses the lack of open-source hardware in networking equipment, contrasting it with the more popular open-source CPU initiatives.
